Well, that's one way to give a speech. President Biden came out guns blazing last night during his State of the Union address. And he addressed it all, really. From Roe v. Wade, to his Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, American division, and the real threat that MAGA represents to our democracy.
It's hard to think of a speech as consequential and powerful as the one we watched last night, and we'd have to go as far back as Kennedy, or even FDR to find something as strong and inspiring. And that's a lot to say, after all, Reagan and President Obama were phenomenally effective orators during their presidencies.
But this, this is the speech. President Biden addressed the crucial Ukraine conflict, calling out Putin, all while exposing how weak and even dangerous Trump has been when it comes to dealing with America's adversaries. Biden also addressed the Israel-Palestine conflict, condemned Hamas for putting the Palestinian people in harm's way, but also mentioned how critical it is for Israel to minimize civilian casualties and chaos, and ultimately secure a ceasefire. A ceasefire that Hamas can achieve by releasing the remaining hostages.
President Biden also reminded the country about what happened on January 6, 2021. The coup attempt. How it failed, but how it's still ongoing. He made a call to action. A call for all of us, to wake up, to fight back against this authoritarian ultranationalist movement. Because the threat to our democracy, our freedom, and our way of life is very real. And that's a threat that no president has faced since Abraham Lincoln, giving even more meaning to Biden's speech.
And if you thought that was it, well, you're wrong. The moment of the night was when President Biden addressed the Supreme Court Justices, and told them right to their face: "Women are not without electoral or political power, you're about to find out." Leaving the justices stunned.
This was President Biden's masterpiece.
Is this the best State of the Union address ever?
No doubt.
Since Kennedy/FDR.
Not even close.
